Comfy, Lightweight yet Supportive
| icklemickle at Eastern Mountain Sports (EMS) on 01/08/2009 | |
| Rating: | |
| The boots are very comfortable, supportive and warm. (Surprising, as they're really lightweight). The contagrip soles grip really well, like other Salomon boots that I've owned. One potential downside: the lugs are not very deep. I'm a bit concerned that they may wear out before too long, which is why I my rating is 4/5 stars. But this concern is not based on any real evidence, so I haven't listed it as an offial "Con". If they end up wearing well, they will deserve the full 5/5 rating. I tested these straight out of the box no break-in time - walking to work and back (2 miles each way). The route is mostly paved, with some shiggy along the way. I wore them with a pair of Smartwool lightweight hiking socks and had no blisters. Day 1: Outside Temp: 30F Conditions: Freezing Rain Miles walked: 4 Feet: Warm & Dry Grips cut through the layer of slushy ice and gripped well on the ground below. Day 2: Outside Temp: 40F Weather: Rain Miles walked: 4 Feet: Warm and Dry. Day 3: Outside Temp: 22F (17F windchill) Weather: Light snow Miles walked: 4 Feet: Warm and Dry (Even though my legs were cold - should've worn long underwear!) Verdict: I'm keeping them. | |
Very happy with these boots.

| I bought these boots to replace my beloved Karrimor boots (also a light/mid-weight style). I day hike over a mixture of terrain (muddy, rocky) - usually in Spring/Summer/Fall. With no break-in I was able to comfortably do an easy 5-mile hike in the Catskills. The day before yesterday I did a 7-mile hike on steep, rocky ground and these boots gave me excellent ankle support, supreme traction and were still comfortable at the end of the day. They are light - and thus less fatiguing to wear. My only complaint is that the lacing is hard to get right. I have narrow feet and unless I tighten the forefoot are correctly my foot tends to slide around inside the boot - which is very disconcerting when you're walking downhill on steep, rocky ground! At one point my foot slid enough to cause my ankle to roll - luckily the boot had enough ankle support to prevent injury. I'm looking forward to my Adirondacks vacation! | |
Darn near 5 stars | |

| Almost Excellent!! These boots are not meant for standing still. And these puppies can keep on truckin'! Ultra light with just the right amount of support. Just shoveled a couple inches of icy, wet snowy slush from a long driveway and parking area. My feet stayed dry through several hours of sloppy wet snow removal in freezing rain. These are very comfortable boots but not insulated. But no cold feet with just light wool socks. Very impressive. Set up for speed lacing but laces are slick and tend to untie themselves. These would be perfect if the laces could lock instead of having to be tied. These boots are pretty sharp looking but why Steelers colors? Not sure if Eagles colors would look right though. | |
These boots are just right

| In November 09 took these on the A.T. north to the long trail. This section is steep and rocky in many places and these boots worked perfectly. I had little break in time, about two hours inside and no hot spots or issues. My brother wished he had a lighter boot and pack after we went 10 or 12 miles in this terrain. I had a 30 lb pack with food/water and had no support issues jumping rock to rock on the descent from pine cobble.I'd give a perfect rating but I'm not sure how they will hold up yet over the long haul. | |
Good shoe, not so good laces
| ajmcforester at Eastern Mountain Sports (EMS) on 12/28/2008 | |

| Comfort is good, however the laces are not good I need to change them out. The laces loosen up and come untied easily. These shoes have the basic shoe lace. I like how they fit, I've always wanted a pair of Salomon shoes, but they have been to narrow for my feet, that has changed. My local EMS store did not have these in stock, they where very helpful in letting try on sizes so I could order the correct size. | |
Excellent boots | |
| Kelvin at Altrec on 11/30/2009 | |

| These boots are sensational, they are very light, have great traction and good feel through the sole. I followed other reviewer's recommendations and got a 1/2 size larger than I normally would have and they fit perfectly. Thanks to the other reviewer's for this information. I like these boots enough that I am buying some Salomon running shoes. | |

It's Weak | |
| JD at Eastern Mountain Sports (EMS) on 12/17/2008 | |
| Rating: | |
| Overall the shoes look good but it is weak when used in rocky-type trails. Feels flimsy at best. This type shoes should be durable and constructed well. It almost feels like a tennis shoes at times, which is good if you are on paved trails. I would not recommend this shoes for true hiking. In fact if I could return it, I would. | |
Light But Tough on Your Feet

| Owning a different pair of Salomon boots, I expected these to be as comfortable as the others. However, despite their lightness, they are tough on my feet. The boots are not comfortable. I regret buying them and after wearing them trying to break them in, no way I can return them. Looks like they will not be worn much. | |

| The boots fit good but there is nothing I have tried that stops me from getting blisters on my heals! Only moleskin!! My speedcross 2 are great but not these boots I would not recommend them to anyone! | |
