KEEN Men's Newport Trail Hiking Shoes include eVENT waterproof breathable inserts to protect your feet from muddy trails and rainy weather when you take these shoes into the backcountry. Siped multi-directional soles give you aggressive traction whether you need to go uphill, downhill, or traverse a long section of slick trail. KEEN used an EVA-molded footbed to add a layer of cushion between your feet and the trail's rough terrain, so you hike more comfortably from trailhead to trailhead.

Bottom Line:KEEN keeps your feet dry and comfortable when you wear the Newport Trail Hiking Shoes in the hills.

Great durable and comfy shoe! I've had mine now since September 2007 and they are still my favorite day hiking shoe. I have hiked all sorts of terrain from the wet forest of Olympic National Park in October to Red Rock Canyon in Nevada and then back to the granite hills of the Texas Hill Country. The shoes are still holding up just fine with only a minor bit of tread wear. The waterproofing performed very well in Olympic during a few days of hiking in the rain sloshing through creeks and river beds. The just get more comfortable the older and more worn in they get. I would highly recommend them to anyone wanting a comfy and durable day hiking shoe. I'm about 6'2" and 245lbs so they can clearly take a beating. Just ordered a pair of Targhee II mids for some added ankle support along longer more technical hikes in Glacier National Park and Banff this summer.

5 star durable, 5 star comfortable

I have owned a this pair of shoes for over a year now and wear them to work everyday, which is to say I walk through the thickest off-trail woods northwest Florida can muster and the smilax hasn't been able to shred them yet. So after 40 hours a week in the woods that have no trails (I'm a CRM archaeologist, its what we do) for a straight year, these things are still holding strong. In my line of work a pair of snake boots only lasts about 6 months, so needless to say I'm impressed. Yes, they are ugly, but are by far the most functional shoe I have ever taken into the woods!

Longer break-in time than most Keens - I now own seven pairs of Keens (all from Zappos.com!), so I'm already a believer. I've been spoiled since all my Keens have needed virtually no breaking-in time. The Newport Trail, however, are still hurting my ankle a bit after a few days of wear. The footbed is just as comfy as you would expect from Keen, and I can go a whole day without the soles of my feet even noticing. I'm sure after a few more wears, my Newport Trails will join my six other pairs of Keens in absolute comfort!

Good as Gold - I needed a waterproof boot that was comfortable, looked good and would wear well. Zappos has such a large selection it took me some time to choose, but I'm very pleased with the choice of Keen's Newport Trail. It meets all my needs. Having in a previous order some years ago had to return the shoe for size, I was concerned that this time I would have the same problem. So, I was very pleased that the Keen fit perfectly (size 10) right from the box. I will continue to use Zappos for my shoe needs.

Comfy and versatile - As a guy with squat and slightly mismatched feet, it is all about boots/shoes that lace down to the toe like this one; very adjustable. These were instantly comfortable, no breaking in at all. They have a lot of support and a lot of cushioning. They do not breathe much though, and may be kinda hot in the summer. Overall, very good, (nearly) all-year-round boots. Zappos was much slower than usual with this order; it took TWO WHOLE DAYS for these to arrive! Heh heh.

I have been wearing my Keen Newport trail shoes for a few weeks now. The nature of my work requires me to be on my feet outdoors most of the day. These shoes finally fit the bill. They are (relatively) light and waterproof, and the wide toe box finally means my feet won't be hurting as much. There is more padding than I would like, though. I prefer a more minimalist shoe, and just don't understand the people who always want so much padding around their feet.

Wow! These feel great! I've been trying to wear out a pair of Keen Newport sandals for a couple of years now, I just put on heavy socks and wear them right through winter. They just keep going and going. Glad the wife talked me into trying these Trails. Same wonderful comfortable fit as the sandals. They are awesome. I usually wear 11 EE, and due to the wide toe box the 11.5 Keens feel like they were made for my feet! I love 'em!

Another great shoe by Keen

This is another Great shoe made by Keen. I currently own 8 pairs of Keen's, just love them! Ended up buying a half size smaller then ususal, shoe is a bit wider. I wear a sz 8.5 Wms in all the others I own, and in these I had to get an 8. Nice and warm for my always cold feet. Waterproof, great traction, comfy and cozy, Great fit the first time on. Would recommend to a friend

Keen Newport Trails - My husband had the open sandal type Keens and loved them He has wide feet and these fit him perfectly. When we saw the closed style, he wanted them as well but the place we saw them only had 9's--his usual size, and they were a little snug. We ordered the 9 1/2's from Zappos, got them two days later, and he couldn't be happier with the shoes or the service!

Comfort Right Out of the Box - I bought this as a Christmas gift for my husband and he has been wearing them ever since I gave them to him. I thought that he would just wear them for hiking but he likes them so much that he wears them every day. I got him one-half size larger than usual. He says they get better every day!

Negative Reviews:

false advertising

These are listed by Backcountry as made with superior eVent waterproofing material. I emailed and live chatted with BC to make sure (eVent is rare in shoes). Each BC associate said that 'Yes it is made with eVent', "no BS" they said, "guaranteed". Alas, what a bunch of bunk. The shoes arrive and they are made with Keen's KeenDry not eVent. I'm sure they are great shoes but they're not what I wante or what they advertised. So the low rating is for Backcountry's false advertising and deception and not a bad mark on Keen. I don't like to be so harsh but it is what it is & in this case Backcountry was knowingly deceptive even after I questioned their claim of eVent. They refunded my money but I still paid return shipping.
